I have 9 years of experience in user-centered design of web sites and applications, and a solid understanding of methods and best practices in Interaction Design, User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and User Experience Research.

I am currently a Sr. Product Manager in the Health Plan Institute of Kaiser Permanente, where I direct the analysis and definition of effective web-based performance support solutions to support business needs for Kaiser Permanente's Health Plan Marketing, Sales, Service and Administration (MSSA) functions. I am no longer consulting.

Biotech/Bioscience: web site redesign

The California Institute for Quantitative Bioscience is an amazing nexus of bioscience and biotech research. They were looking to redesign their web site to better communicate with a variety of target audiences, including potential industry partners. I'm working with a team from Quinn Interactive as the Information Architect/User Interface Designer on the project, which is currently entering development.

As the Information Architect and User Interface Designer, I was responsible for:
  • gathering business requirements and user needs
  • developing the information architecture for the new site
  • creating a set of wireframes illustrating the proposed user interface for the new site
  • consulting with the visual designers and developer to implement it all

Social Media: web site redesign

Socialmedia is a recent startup who is already a dominant player in the social network advertising market. They needed to redesign their site in order to more clearly communicate with their target audiences of advertisers and developers and more easily generate leads. I worked with a team from nr10 on the redesign effort to provide a new IA and UI for the site and a tracking and sales application.

As the Information Architect and User Interface Designer, I was responsible for:
  • content audit & inventory of original site, and managing content needs for the redesign
  • developing a new Information Architecture for the site and creating a site map
  • creating a set of wireframes for the site and a tracking and sales application

Health Care/Wellness Solutions: web application

A stealth-mode start-up wanted to create a series of web applications enabling users to track their health-related behaviors and providing them with incentives to improve their well-being.

As the Strategist and Interaction Designer, I was responsible for:

Pharmaceutical: consumer product web site & web app

A major pharmaceutical company was developing marketing materials to help educate a targeted patient population about one of their products. I worked with a team to develop a web site and tracker application to help patients manage their symptoms.

As the User Interface and Interaction Designer, I was responsible for:

  • writing use cases and designing wireframes for a browser-based symptom tracker application

Telecommunications: complex form & CMS workflow

A major wireless telecommunications company needed to enable their partners to submit information about their third party applications online through an extensive multiple page form, which partners can save (and then retrieve) before submitting.

As the Interaction Designer, I was responsible for:
  • writing user definitions and use cases
  • creating process flow diagrams and accompanying documentation for two initial solutions
  • creating a set of annotated wireframes for the final proposed solution

Pharmaceutical: user needs research

A major pharmaceutical company was looking to simply the log-in processes for a family of product web sites by implementing single sign-on, and needed actionable insights about how their users.

As the User Researcher, I was responsible for:
  • designing the research project and developing the interview instrument and script
  • working with the client to recruit and screen research subjects
  • conducting interviews
  • creating and presenting report of findings and recommendations on how to best implement single sign-on and other features
